Jumprava 2003

In spring of 2003 the little chamber musicians from 20 music schools of Latvia and their friends from Vilnius, Kaunas and StPetersburg arrived in Jumprava to take part in the 1st International Festival – Competition of Chamber Ensembles for Young Performers – “We play music with friends”. Entirely 196 children representing 72 ensembles took part in the Festival. The enterprise was organized by the enthusiastic teachers of Jazeps Medins Music School of Riga and Music School of Jumprava. Together they worked out the rules and the programme of the Festival – Competition. The Honorary Patron of the Festival – Competition was the ex-minister of Culture of Latvia Inguna Ribena. The financial support was given by the National Culture Capital Foundation, the Municipal Council of Jumprava, Departmant of Culture of the City Council of Riga, the Municipality of Ogre District.

Short history

The history of the International Festival – Competition of Chamber Ensembles for Young Performers “We play music with friends” began in 2003. The authors of the idea were teachers of Jazeps Medins Music School of Riga. We see that a new mowement in musical education has been started in the whole world. Children like to play music in chamber ensembles.

The enthusiastic teachers had an intention to organize an international meeting in Latvia either. In co-operation with colleagues from Latvian and foreign music schools we have created the children’s together-playing festival. Since then it has become a nice tradition. Every festival takes place at the end of the school-year and we are impatiently waiting for the next.
